pine aire and edgewoodThis is a featured page

There are two sections of Brentwood that I'll bet you didn't know about. They are called Edgewood and Pine Aire.Edgewood is located just to the west of Pine Aire, around the area of Long Island Avenue and Pilgrim Psychiatric Center. It was created in 1890,when a railway station, hotel, button factory, and homes were built. The station and hotel were located on what was later known as Edgewood Crossing, which was at the west end of Pine Aire Drive.

Mrs.Hurley, who lived on Manatuck Boulevard, was the original resident of Pine Aire. But shortly after moving there, she left the area and went to Bay Shore-taking the house with her. Some other early residents included W.Gillen,M.Arachtingi,C.Kirgessner,Bricker,and Boves. There was also John H.MacMillan,a well known "free spirit" in Brentwood. He was secretary of the Associated Property Owners of Pine Aire,Inc.,and active in many other community organizations. The Assocaited Property Owners of Pine Aire was a progressive civic group that had its own newspaper called "The Pine Aire News",which kept residents informed of local matters.

Edgewood and Pine Aire were in the Brentwood Electric,Fire, and School Districts.
