Brentwood Theatre
Aug 9 2009, 8:23 PM EDT
My mother Mary J. Roberts was the second manager of the Brentwood Theatre, I lived exactly across the street on Second Avenue and remember as it was being built. I remember that first movie Major Dundee like it was yesterday and many of the folks who worked there in those early years. Something to be said about fresh concrete, asphalt parking lot and a brand new movie theatre that you never forget. I have forever been a movie buff and I think it all started back in the mid 60s. Of course this movie theatre was built as drive ins were slowly dying. Up til that point you either went to the drive in on 5th Avenue or went to Bay Shore, so my guess is most folks only saw new movies at the drive in before the Brentwood Theatre was built.
